INFORMATION SECURITY

In the past, the importance of information security was to do with the protection of accounting and financial data. Today, with the globalization of markets and free trade, sensitivities have increased regarding information security, even from national laws. Specific incentives in information management such as “protecting assets” which arise, among other things, from factors such as: applicable laws, industrial piracy, image preservation and, no less importantly, the development of information technologies. The number of viruses, attacks and interventions we have to face every day proves the importance of storing information managed by Information Systems (IT).

But information won’t be called just what lies in computers. Information may be on paper, disc or in the minds and actions of those working for the Company. Information is part of the Company’s assets and as such should be stored throughout its life cycle.

EMAS REGULATION (CE/1221/2009)

Since its inception, the guiding principles of the European Union have been directed at improving and preserving the quality of life of citizens: in this regard, the EMAS Regulation issued by the Council of the EU, although with many common operating points on the road to environmental management ISO, has its origins in the same Treaty establishing the European Union (Maastricht Treaty, Paragraph 1, Art. 175).

In particular, the “Towards Sustainability” programme is presented by the European Commission, with approval on 01/02/1993, which underlines the role and responsibilities of individual bodies to strengthen the economy and environmental protection throughout the community.

WHAT IS EMAS?

EMAS Regulation CE/1221/2009 – EKO – Management and Audit System – describes a voluntary management system for public and private bodies that wish to engage to assess and improve their environmental performance. This regulation includes a process of collecting verified environmental data or an external communication called an Environmental Declaration. The process allows, at its end, the subjective registration verified by a National Authority, in a register of updated European-level EMAS bodies.

WHAT ARE THE ACTIVITIES THAT AN ORGANIZATION INTENDS TO APPLY FOR REGISTRATION ACCORDING TO EMAS?

  • Conducting a thorough environmental analysis examining the environmental impacts of the activities performed
  • Adopt an ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEM MANAGEMENT ISO 14001 to achieve the Body’s Environmental Policy and achieve the goals of the established improvement
  • Obtaining a series of environmental audits systematically and documented for periodic evaluation and objective performance of the body
  • Publishing information in an Environmental Declaration (DA), as clear, transparent and comprehensive as possible.

Organisms wishing to enter EMAS must demonstrate that:

  • Efficiency, commitment and improvement of environmental performance and assurance of compliance with environmental legislation in force
  • Transparency, making available its policies, objectives and programmes related to environmental improvement, management system and summary of relevant environmental performance data enabling an open dialogue with all stakeholders
  • The truth of the information provided, by establishing by an independent verifier accreditation and registration with the competent national body.

OUR METHODOLOGY

The audits provide distinct phases:

  • Initial inspection
  • Review of environmental declaration document
  • Verification of environmental declaration confirmation

After the preparation of the environmental declaration, the applicant shall submit to the competent authority of the country, application for EMAS record. By registering, the body receives a number that identifies in the European Register and has the right to use the EMAS logo in their communications, an element in providing a planned and systematic attention to environmental matters.

REDUCING ENERGY COSTS

The growth towards more efficient energy management has resulted in the setting of numerous international and international standards. Energy saving is an essential factor aimed at increasing sustainability of activities: “Energy storage to reduceCO2 emissions” is the underlying message in the fight against global warming.

SOLUTIONS

Energy Management Systems provides a monitoring system designation and reduction of energy consumption in any type of business, which refers to the standard that is certified ISO 50001. Based on the Cycle of the Check-list Plan (execution-control-improvement plan), ISO 50001 creates a set of requirements for the implementation of energy policies, with concrete objectives, according to the adoption of requirements to reduce and control energy consumption, verify the savings plan and improve on a continuous basis.

ISO 50001 provides necessary guidance in accordance with the requirements of co-reduction and emissions2Based on regulatory compliance, it has a similar structure to ISO 14001 and can be easily integrated with quality management, safety and environmental systems that may already be present in the company.

ISO 50001 enables companies to meet the requirements set by the standard, contributing extensively to lower energy consumption as well as lower costs, resulting in increased obtainability and obtaining a significant competitive advantage. The certificate is valid for three years, subject to monitoring audits. With the expiry of the three-year certification, the certificate can be renewed.

Certification designed by sellers for their suppliers

Increasingly complex supply chains and distribution chains have itensified the demand for guarantee in food quality, safety from consumers and authorities. In response to this request, the large distribution company has promoted international standards of hygiene and quality, application required by its suppliers. Through these schemes, you can monitor and verify working methods and compliance with hygiene requirements throughout the supply chain, ensuring food safety and immediate risk management, if a problem is verified. Not only suppliers, but also raw material producers and carriers are involved in this challenge. The company that wants to enter the international market cannot disrespect the adoption of these standards.

SOLUTIONS

Brc standards and IFS are international schemes in harmornized manner, in the face of common principles, different standards are adopted by large European minority companies. The BRC Standard ( British Retailer Consortium – was developed in England, where it is institutionalised, the IFS – International Food Standard – is an equivalent instrument issued by the most important distribution names of German, fringe, Italian, and minority companies. Both standards require audit certification by third-party bodies. In fact, today, with their latest releases, the two standardized are in one line, facilitating joint certification auditing.

WHAT ARE THE MAIN BENEFITS OF BRC/IFS STANDARDS?

  • Access to target markets in most European countries
  • Strong relationship with suppliers
  • Greater transparency and increased consumer confidence
  • Simplification of production
  • Control of internal processes and minimize risk
  • Demonstrate preventive strategies for food safety

METHODOLOGY

The main stages of the certification process include:

  • Definition of the purpose of certification
  • Preliminary verification (upon request): analysis of deficiencies and assessment of the current compliance of bodies according to requirements
  • Certification audit, which has the final result of issuing the certificate.
  • Renovation surveys (essentially bjet) aimed at controlling continuous improvement

The company delivers a clear and comprehensive report, allowing continuous improvement of performance in the field of food safety management.

The results of certification checks are used as documentation in order to bring large retailers closer to suppliers.

WHAT ARE THE MAIN DIFFERENCES BETWEEN BRC AND IFS?

Both standards are designed to control the practices of retail suppliers. They have the same goal, but the way to do so is a little different. The key principles are similar (HACCP, Quality System, pre-existing conditions, management of the work environment and personnel, control of product and process), but the method for determining conformities is set in a different way. The IFS uses a percentage score rating system, the BRC reasons in conformity aspects (A,B,C).

INTEGRATION OF BS MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS AFTER 99:2012

The integration of management systems allows rationalization and efficiency in resource use and better organizational risk management. PAS 99 is the technical standard issued by British Standard, whose objective is to help businesses that have at least two systems – and possibly two certificates – to integrate management.

After 99 is the world’s first specific standard for integrated management systems requirements based on six common requirements of the ISO 72 guide (The Standard for Writing Standards for Management Systems). In response to market demands to rank business processes and procedures we have developed a comprehensive structure that enables businesses to take more effective action.

WHO IS IT ADDRESSING?

Integrated management is suitable for all companies, regardless of size or sector, that want to integrate two or more management systems into a united system that includes documentation, policies, procedures and processes in a comprehensive manner.

Standard used with PAS 99.

A typical integrated management system may include:

  • ISO 9001 Quality Management
