ISO 50001:2018 & ISO 22000:2018 – Transition Management

ISO 50001 “Energy Management System” – 2018 Edition

UPDATE: AS A RESULT OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, TRANSITION DEADLINES OF ISO 50001:2018 HAVE BEEN EXTENDED BY 6 MONTHS TO 31 JANUARY 2022

MAIN INNOVATIONS

HOW THE TRANSITION WILL EVOLVE

For companies already certified according to the previous edition of the standard, the IAF (International Accreditation Forum/International Accreditation Forum -www.iaf.nu) has laid out an implementation plan to encourage a gradual transition, as well as some summary documents on key changes made. AQSCERT has also published a plan for the transition of ISO 50001:2011 to ISO 50001:2018

DURATION OF THE TRANSITION PERIOD***

There will be a duration of the transition period of 3 years and 6 months (6 months will be extended the transition deadlines as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic), starting from the date of publication of the standard (20 August 2018). During this period it will be possible to conduct an audit to comply with the new edition. From 20 February 2020, audits will be conducted only according to the requirements of ISO 50001:2018.

Validity of previous edition

Certificates issued under ISO 50001:2011 will be valid until the end of the transition period 31 January 2022.

WHAT COMPANIES SHOULD DO

AQSCERT has provided its clients with detailed information on the duration and methods of auditing the transition. If the transition is carried out during routine maintenance/renovation visits, it will be necessary to assess the appropriateness of the currently anticipated time. https://www.aqscert.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/TRANZICIONI-NGA-ISO-50001-2011-NE-ISO-50001-2018-1.pdf

ISO 22000 “Food Safety Management System” – 2018 Edition

UPDATE: AS A RESULT OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, TRANSITION DEADLINES OF ISO 22000:2018 HAVE BEEN EXTENDED BY 6 MONTHS TO 29 DECEMBER 2021

MAIN INNOVATION: HIGH LEVEL STUTTING (HLS)

The main changes compared to ISO version 22000:2005 are attributable to the presentation of the concepts of the new HLS structure (context analysis, stakeholders and inclusion of stakeholder expectations in SMU objectives, Management involvement and system integration into processes). Other changes, more formal than fundamental, are particularly related to operational management (Cap. 8) of food safety.

DEFINITIONS

Also some changes relate to the definitions of key terms and their use in HACCP plans: a clear description of the differences between critical control points (CCP), preliminary operational programmes (OPRP) and precautions (PRP) are provided, with the aim of simplification of the standard by maximizing the efficiency of the PDCA Cycle.

INTEGRATION WITH OTHER STANDARDS

The new standard also integrates some functional content of other sector standards such as ISO 22005, ISO TS 22004 and ISO 22002.

WHAT COMPANIES SHOULD DO

The transition to the new standard can be made during maintenance or renewal audits already planned by assessing the appropriateness of the currently anticipated time.
